FIRST SIGNS INC.
Parents and physicians seeking the latest information regarding early identification
of autism should check out www.firstsigns.org . The site provides details about the
screening and referral process and answers many of the concerns expressed by
parents who have children with autism.

Preliminary Diagnostic Questions (PDQ)
The Preliminary Diagnostic Questions (PDQ) consists of 73 questions for parents
concerned about their children's development. The questionnaire addresses issues
such as Sensory Reactivity, Body Awareness and Coordination, Tool Use, Social Adaptation, Communication (Receptive and Expressive), Symbolic Capacity, Self Stimulatory Behavior as well as System Markers (suggesting either; tendency toward
a closed system or system-forming disorder). The PDQ is available under the Parents
and Caregivers section of www.millermethod.org . Once completed and transmitted a
senior staff member at the Language and Cognitive Development Center will promptly
review and summarize findings from the PDQ and transmit them to the sender. There
is no charge for this screening service.
