Augmentative Communication Service

Purpose:

  • To provide communication enhancement services for adults and children with complex or severe communication challenges.

Clientele:

  • Individuals with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, etc., requiring specialized communication devices or techniques.

The Program:

  • Assessment
  • Treatment
  • Consultation
  • Education
  • Facilitator training
  • Development of group homes
  • Outreach
  • Services are often provided in conjunction with other therapeutic services at the Centre

Paediatric Services

Purpose:

  • To help children achieve optimal potential in communication, mobility and skills for daily living.

Clientele:

  • Hereditary and acquired neurological and muscular disorders (example: cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and spina bifida)
  • Severe developmental delay
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Feeding and swallowing disorders

The Program:

  • Primary day-patient/outpatient basis
  • Consultation and education
  • Feeding and swallowing assessment and treatment
  • Specialized bracing
  • Short term inpatient stays
  • Outreach clinics

Future Plans:

  • Education and consultation services to all regions in the province including outreach
  • Specialty clinics for groups of children who share similar diagnosis (example: spina bifida)

Kiwanis House

Purpose:

  • To provide accessible, affordable self-care accommodations for outpatients and their families while services are received at the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation

Clientele:

  • Must be self-reliant or accompanied by an appropriate family member/caregiver

Location

  • Directly behind the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation
  • Easily accessible to downtown Fredericton, Dr. Chalmers Hospital and other amenities

Reservations

  • Required in advance
  • Minimal fee

Kiwanis house made available through the generosity of the Fredericton Kiwanis Club and the Forest Hill Rehabilitation Foundation.
