Augmentative Communication Service
Purpose:
- To provide communication enhancement services for adults and children with complex or severe communication challenges.
Clientele:
- Individuals with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, etc., requiring specialized communication devices or techniques.
The Program:
- Assessment
- Treatment
- Consultation
- Education
- Facilitator training
- Development of group homes
- Outreach
- Services are often provided in conjunction with other therapeutic services at the Centre
Paediatric Services
Purpose:
- To help children achieve optimal potential in communication, mobility and skills for daily living.
Clientele:
- Hereditary and acquired neurological and muscular disorders (example: cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and spina bifida)
- Severe developmental delay
- Spinal cord injury
- Traumatic brain injury
- Feeding and swallowing disorders
The Program:
- Primary day-patient/outpatient basis
- Consultation and education
- Feeding and swallowing assessment and treatment
- Specialized bracing
- Short term inpatient stays
- Outreach clinics
Future Plans:
- Education and consultation services to all regions in the province including outreach
- Specialty clinics for groups of children who share similar diagnosis (example: spina bifida)
Kiwanis House
Purpose:
- To provide accessible, affordable self-care accommodations for outpatients and their families while services are received at the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation
Clientele:
- Must be self-reliant or accompanied by an appropriate family member/caregiver
Location
- Directly behind the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation
- Easily accessible to downtown Fredericton, Dr. Chalmers Hospital and other amenities
Reservations
- Required in advance
- Minimal fee
Kiwanis house made available through the generosity of the Fredericton Kiwanis Club and the Forest Hill Rehabilitation Foundation.
