Adaptive Driving Service
Purpose:
- To design and fabricate wheelchair equipment and technology suited to individual client needs.
Clientele:
- Adults or children with disabilities.
The Program:
- In depth assessment of seating needs by an Occupational Therapist with special expertise in Adaptive Seating.
- May include physiatry consultation and other professionals in client's care.
- Funding assistance.
- Provincial outreach.
Adaptive Seating Service
Purpose:
- To enable persons with disabilities to have increased access and safe mobility in their communities.
Clientele:
- Adults with disabilities who want to begin or continue driving.
The Program:
- Assessment to determine individual needs for driving equipment and training.
- Outreach clinics and training at various locations throughout the province.
- Staffed by an occupational therapist who is a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist.
Adult Services
Purpose:
- To maximize independence and self-care of adults with neurological conditions.
Clientele:
- Complex strokes.
- Traumatic brain injuries.
- Spinal cord injuries.
- Neurological disabilities including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The Program:
- Tailored to meet individual client needs.
- Client/family participates in goal-setting and treatment plan.
- Consultation and education.
- Intensive rehabilitation by interdisciplinary team.
Future Plans:
- Expand outreach services throughout the province.
- Specialty clinics for specific client groups (example: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis.
