Computers and kids go together naturally. Today's software can provide fun learning opportunities tailored for a child's developmental levels, and each playtime builds new skills. For children with disabilities, this is often an area where they can be on equal footing with their peers, a chance to build both self-confidence and skills which are important. Some children need a little extra help to get started. Touch screens and switches are available for children who haven't mastered the mouse or track ball. For children with auditory or visual processing problems, there is special software to make things easier - but it is expensive and not widely available. The Assistive Technology Bank is a service offered by the Autism Society of New Brunswick. Its purpose is to provide loans of adaptive equipment and software to children with disabilities. ![]() ![]() ![]() This Bank is still in its infancy, so donations are welcomed - adaptive equipment, developmental software, etc...
