The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) was developed as a unique augmentative/ alternative training package that teaches children and adults with autism and other communication deficits to initiate communication.

CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

There's new information out about one of the Centres of Excellence for Children's Well-Being that Health Canada is spearheading.

The Centre of Excellence for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs will operate under the administrative leadership of Lakehead University, in partnership with the: Government of Nunavut; University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, British Columbia ; Memorial University in St. Johnâs, Newfoundland ; Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The work of this Centre will contribute to ensuring that regardless of where children and adolescents with special needs live in Canada, programs for promoting optimal development will be accessible, available, and linguistically and culturally appropriate to them.
