PRENATAL

Healthy Babies are a result of healthy pregnancies. If you are pregnant, or know someone who is pregnant and in need of help, call your local Public Health office for more information.

Some ECI services you, or someone you know, may qualify for include:

  • Prenatal classes to prepare you and your family for your new baby.
  • A Public Health nurse visiting you in your home to help you deal with special health concerns.
  • Regular visits with a Public Health nutritionist to learn about healthy eating. You may qualify for free milk and vitamins.
  • Learning about services available in your community and how to get help from them.

POSTNATAL

After your baby is born, a Public Health nurse will visit you in the hospital to talk with you about special concerns you may have about going home with your baby. Some ECI services you qualify for include:

  • Free milk for you and your baby.
  • Regular visits at home by a Public Health nurse to help you in caring for yourself and your new baby. These visits will give you a chance to learn more about what to expect from your child and tips for how to manage concerns as your child grows and changes. As well, the nurse can discuss with you other suitable programs in the community and how you can get help from them.

5 MONTHS TO 5 YEARS

  • EARLY INTERVENTION - Regular home-visits by Early Intervention staff for parents of preschool children (primarily from birth to four years). These services can assist parents in meeting the special needs of their child.
  • INTEGRATED DAY CARE - Enrollment of your child in a government approved day care program. This service is intended to allow children in special circumstances to participate in activities appropriate for their age and level of development.
  • 3¸ YEAR OLD HEALTH CLINIC - When your child reaches 3¸ years of age, your local Public Health office will contact you and offer an appointment for a "health check". The purpose of the clinic is to help identify any health concerns as early as possible. This will give you and your family time to look after any difficulty your child may have before he or she enters school.
